“To proceed in recovery, you have to be constantly challenged. If you are not going out of your comfort zone, you are not changing your thoughts and behaviors. You have to challenge what you eat, how much you eat, when you eat, how much you exercise, and any other food rules that are holding you back from a normal lifestyle. Since someone with an eating disorder typically thrives on control, we hold onto those disordered practices for dear life. The anxiety from doing differently is overwhelming. This is why many people in recovery relapse, because the anxiety from changing your habits is unmanageable and feels never-ending.”
